About

Home Free on Tour

Though Home Free are primarily considered a country group, the quintet's concerts are quite a bit more. First and foremost, they're a vocal act in the a cappella tradition, which means they know how to make five voices sound like a full band even without any instruments on the stage. They pull off this impressive achievement by incorporating lush harmonies, beatboxing and vocal counterpoint that harkens back to doo-wop and barbershop. While recent years have found Home Free moving toward a more country-based sound, with a repertoire that includes the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton and Maren Morris, they also venture into plenty of other areas when they perform live. A cappella versions of tunes made famous by Ed Sheeran, Shakira or The O'Jays are just as likely to enter their performance repertoire.

Home Free in Concert

The a cappella phenomenon known as Home Free came into being in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2000 when five young men, including brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, joined their voices together for the first time. Their repertoire was all over the map, including country, pop, soul and rock 'n' roll. The group eventually hit the road hard, and began releasing albums on their own label in 2007 starting with From the Top. But things changed in a big way for Home Free when they won the TV competition show The Sing-Off in 2013. By that time they'd become more country-oriented, and after earning a record deal with Sony/Columbia their albums started regularly entering the upper rungs of country charts. Several personnel changes occurred over the years, the biggest when Chris Rupp departed in 2016, but in their current incarnation Home Free still bring the a cappella magic to the stage every time.

We had never heard of the Home Free Vocal Band, but decided to go after hearing them on a radio interview. The show was awesome. The singing was spectacular and it was intermixed with comedic moments that kept everything light and fun.

The buzz of the "sing off" coming into the show made it that more exciting! Hilariously entertaining music!

Loved the evening and thought the group was great. I would ditch the corny joke segment and do something else as that part was very lame. Use the fabulous voices the group has, even oldies, rather than silly jokes.

  • Home Free rocked it in St. Psul

by MsPickle on 12/17/13Fitzgerald Theater - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

An evening of holiday and country music, sprinkled with humor throughout was worth every penny. Wished it had been longer, but a two hour event is completely respectable. Hope they plan more dates in the Twin Cities. Get yourself a huge cruise bonus and book on one of their upcoming cruises. My cruise entertainment has never been THAT good. I hope they find much success after The Sing Off. My husband & I will definitely attend again.

One of the best concerts I've ever seen. The singing talent of these men is almost impossible to believe, and the "drum solo" along with Tim's amazing range made me certain I will see them again and again. Great report with the audience as well.

These young men produce some of the most marvelous harmony I have ever experienced. Phenomenal sound, creative arrangements, and great repoire with each other. They provide entertainment well worth the price. If you haven't heard them yet, do yourself a favor and be at their next show!

  • These guys are awesome!!

    by jm20w on 12/9/12Clay County Fair - SpencerRating: 5 out of 5

I saw these guys at a fair, well I heard them when I was passing by and stayed to listen. They were super good and really funny. The beat boxer is amazing! I got to talk with them after they performed and they are really down to earth, down home kind of guys. I always thought acapella was like those barbershop groups singing oldies music but these guys really mix it up and do all genres and the beat boxer is like a walking percussion set. I saw their Christmas show last year and it was AMAZING!. It was in a small theater though so I'm SO excited to see it at the Fitzgerald. There's a whole light show and everything. I'm bringing my 80-year old grandma and 2, 6 and 15-year old niece and nephews. I'd definitely recommend them!!
