Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing nine division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

  • Fun event

by JM on 5/28/25American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

We had fun at the Dallas Stars watching party. Appreciate it being so affordable for admission. Long lines at the concession stands. A suggestion would be to have a stand for drinks only. We only wanted 2 water bottles and stood in line for over 20 minutes.

  • First Stars playoff game!

by Kristi on 4/28/25Rating: 5 out of 5

I went to my first Dallas Stars playoff game on April 24th. To say it was electric is an understatement. The energy in the arena was unreal. My son even got a puck from one of the players in pregame warmups. If you are a Stars fan you need to get to a playoff game!

  • Nothing like it

by Eric T on 4/24/25American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I have never been to such an electric game, let alone event. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are very different games to watch rather than regular season games. The atmosphere of the AAC was simply astounding and the vibes were just overall wonderful. Absolute 10/10 experience.

  • Awesome

by Bert on 4/22/25American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

  • Never been happier

by Maxey girl on 4/15/25American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

If you are on the fence about going to a stars game, DO IT! I don’t find much joy in life most times and let’s be honest who does nowadays. There is one thing in this world that brings me joy and that is a cold drink in hand and a puck drop. The stadium always puts on a good show and the team never disappoints. Even when they lose watching them work together to represent texas is the most fun I have ever had. I will always support this team and I will always use ticket master to get the greatest seats to support my team. GO STARS!
