About

Pennsylvanian rockers Dr. Dog represent a blast from the past. Their music has often been compared to acts from long ago, including The Beatles and The Beach Boys, to name a couple. The retro sound of Dr. Dog has resulted in several memorable records in their nearly 15 years of existence, yet like any great band, sometimes their recorded material pales in comparison to their live act. Tickets to see Dr. Dog sell fast since the indie group usually prefers to tour the small club circuit. They have also played major festivals, like Coachella and Treasure Island, too. Dr. Dog skips the theatrics and simply sticks to good music playing live. They're a band that is highly skilled, and they even cut a live album at Google's headquarters in California. They have always jammed with famous psychedelic bands, like My Morning Jacket, in concert. Always a group to present new material, the band released their seventh studio album, called "B-Room," in 2013. The record features "The Truth" and "Broken Heart" and was the first album composed at their new studio in Philadelphia.

Dr. Dog was formed by childhood friends, Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman, as the duo preferred to experiment with lo-fi recordings, including original psychedelic material recorded on eight tracks and other vintage devices. Their first album, "The Psychedelic Swamp," was self-recorded and released in 2001. Dr. Dog became popular along the Philadelphia circuit, yet gained little notoriety outside of it. However, the group continued to write and compose the way they wanted to. This would later lead to a large cult following drawn to their complete DIY approach and indie-mentality, thanks to their tireless promotion on the Internet. "We All Belong," "Fate" and "Shame, Shame" are all classic Dr. Dog studio releases, though the band has also released its fair share of EPs and vinyl.

by Kim on 7/17/24Rating: 5 out of 5

These guys were absolutely amazing! Their energy is so infectious. They had every person in the whole (beautiful) venue on their feet and singing throughout the whole concert. It was a perfect set list and perfect sound. A magical night! I will travel anywhere to see these guys. If you haven’t seen them, it’s a must!

Dr. Dog is Philadelphia’s pride and joy. They never disappoint. This show was for the fans, old and new, as they played songs from nearly all of their albums. My friends and I danced and sang our little hearts out and we hope they come back to Philly soon <3

Dr Dog are tight. Performance was amazing, everything I had hoped for. Band members are great musicians, backup vocals perfect, and the person running the sound board produced the best mix I've hears at a concert in years (Maybe ever). Thank you

This was the best show I’ve been to in a while. The venue made us feel safe by requiring vaccination and by all of their employees wearing masks. Dr Dog played a really long set which made me feel like I was getting real value out of the evening. They really make the fans feel understood

Saw these Bonhoeffer's in Portland and they didn't do anything that had to do with dogs or MD's
